Is Srilanka next to Pakistan? and Amsterdam near Anegudda?

I goto a place marked as the border between India and Srilanka, but i am told that this place is also close to Pakistan. It is Anegudda (but it is written Amsterdam). Someone is crossing the Indian border onto Srilanka (or Pakistan) by showing his id card to the Card Reader, only not to return any further. He looks like a person from the film fraternity and his wife and children are standing next to me and crying, saying that 'this was the last time we met him', and he died in a plane crash, due to miscreants firing at the plane. [Dont ask me how the present and the past interchanged here. Not sure what went wrong]

This place has got a historical signifance too and that the person from the film fraternity was the last one to visit this place after the British left India and I am lucky to be alive, as those who came near to this border were either shot dead or died due to severe cold and rainy conditions.

Back to school after 14 years

Not sure, why i am so much obsessed with dreams, these days. I never think to dream, but somehow they have become a routine activity.

On a recent trip to Goa, i had to dream of going back to school after 14 looooong years.

Below is the sequence -

a) I go to a tuition center along with my friend (i know who this is) in a bike. The Master at the tuition center comes late. The students stand in line and then make arrangements to sit in rows. All students offer me food while my friend talks to his cousin over phone. I spot my bag on the loft and take them, after climbing on a stool.

b) Then, i travel in a bus to school. At school, I am called by the Principal and she offers a letter. I am asked to join the class immediately from the second period, which starts at 10.20am. I pass by a group of students and taught to wear the exit badges and scarfs. Then, i see a lift, the entry to which can be on either side. Students and teachers rush to enter into the lift. There are girls who hold the railings of the lift and climb up the floor. The bangles of these girls strike against the wall to produce a spark of fire. I am asked to go to room no 19. One of my friends from office (i know who this is), who is also a student there, helps me with the directions to room 19 and tells me that she will meet me in the class. She holds a file and a book in her right hand. Outside the room, i see 3 girls fighting with each other and 2 boys approach me and start a conversation. I see the room deserted with tables, chairs and sofa. This room leads to another classroom, which is fully decorated with flowers, a showcase with trophies and momentos, photos all over the wall. In one of the photos, i see my colleague, who died in a road accident, married to a girl from this class. I am told that the girl died along with him while on their trip to honeymoon. The school looks like Maharishi Vidya Mandir (I studied here until 8th), while the teachers are from Jawahar Vidyalaya (i studied here until 10th). I prepare an introductory script - An old student of this school, with 10 yrs of experience and as i would want to learn new things, i joined this school again.

Though i was aware of the feeling i had the whole day, i am unaware if that had triggered this.

My latest dream

Back after an hiatus, i am going to describe the sequential events that took place, all in my dream. It is not my first dream, i have been haunted with wierd dreams for almost 2 years and i have walled many, i remember most of such dreams. I am not sure if such dreams had an impact on my life or the future events. One thing for sure is that this is not a good sign of me. Many told me that my feelings are reflected in dreams. That may be true. It so happens that i wake up with the effect of the dream and my body is inclined to the action in such dreams.

Let me now talk about the dream.

I hate the very sight of a baby elephant. My mom (not sure if it really was my mom or any other woman) loves it so much. It is too naughty and i do something bad to it. It chases me and i go to the topmost floor in a building. I push all the cows, a van and few other stuffs available there, thinking that the elephant would not reach the top. I can hear the van banging against the elephant.

Here is where the scene changes. I travel to Kailash and see few panchalokha idols ( i still remember the face of the Goddess ). Someone is performing the abhishegam and the face of the god and goddess is covered with salt and then with sugar. I collect samples of salt and sugar from the face of these idols and pass by Kanchi Maha Swamiji. When i touch the goddess to collect the sugar sample, i could hear a bird chirping. He is busy with his tapasya, i do the short namaskara and he nods his head, conveying the message 'Dont think that what you did is right'. He tells me that many here lack 'atma suddhi' and i also lack the same.

Now, the scene again changes.

The elephant chases me. My aunt(she is now 78 yrs old) is driving a bike (not sure how she drove it, but she looked young to me in the dream) and me sitting behind her. A lady pulls me from the bike, she pulls my ear through her mouth.

All of a sudden, i could see is that i am buried in a graveyard and this baby elephant helps me come of this graveyard. I repent for being bad with the elephant.

Not sure what this dream conveys, neither i am aware of my state of mind when i slept yesterday night.

Many such to follow.

All about a bride's groom - Varudu, a telugu flick

A dozen of us, with me leading, went to see the movie Varudu, at Shalini, a theater near to my in-laws house.

I will start with the Character i liked the most in this film.

Suhasini was at one of her best. She is getting better of her age. She can be very proud of her physique and performance, especially at one scene where she was shown with a formal wear. It is at this instance, the hero, her son, conveys his wish for an arranged marriage. She was awesome in this and can be a great competition to all character artistes of her age, leave alone the performance. No more words to explain her beauty, and performance. She is an asset to this film, if at all if this is declared a hit at the box office. I would give her full marks to her portrayal and also give her an award for the best and beautiful onscreen mother.

Aashish Vidyarthi, the hero's father, was brilliant as a doting husband and a loving and caring dad. He is shown as a friend to the hero and to Suhasini. I would rather want to follow his character as a dad. That way, he has impressed me in his portrayal. He doesnt have to offer much support to the hero, so his character and potential has been under-utilized.

Allu Arjun, the hero, was his usual self, though i havent watched any of his movies yet. His dialogue delivery is far behind the one by Arya, the tamil hero who plays villian in this flick. It looks like the hero had undergone a voice therapy very recently. He doesnt have a worthy role to play except to fight the villian and get back his lady love. He is shown as a do-gooder, go-getter, a darling for all, an urban hero without a lover though with many girl friends, a modern thinker and a person who wants to retain the tradition and culture. His wish to get married with a 5 day affair is noteworthy. Thanks to the story writer and director. Dont ask me who they are, i couldnt understand the written language, nor am i very keen to get that searched for.

The herione, a new face to the Telugu film industry, looks good, and not more than that. She doesnt have to strain too much, except for a dance sequence. She did not have the opportunity to wear as many costumes as a heroine of a commercial film would wear, that way the producer has cut down on the costs. An ameteur at acting, she doesnt have to emote too much, as though she is good at it. Her nose looks like the one which Sridevi had borne when she was at her early stages of acting. Nothing much to add about this girl.

Arya, the villian. I must say, he has done this to his best, though i dont like this guy and never watched any tamil movie of his. He looks more smart and younger than the hero. His dialogue delivery goes for a say here, not sure if he had known the language already or someone else had dubbed for him. Whatever is the case, his voice suited his role. His villiany is gruesome (see the movie for how he utters 'kooshmaanda') and such was his portrayal. Full marks to him for his villiany. If he had been given more footage, that should have done more justice to his role. The way he is shown to sign off from the story is unbelievable in this urban story. May be, the climax fight should have been more realistic and natural. How would a cement factory outlet come down at the thuds of fight between the hero and the villian? The director alone knows the answer to this.

A blink and miss role for Vinaya Prasad, Sneha Ullal, Nasser and Brahmanandam. Vinaya Prasad is good at her usual self, always crying. She is becoming better in this, after every film. Sneha Ullal is not sure what she is going to do in this flick, so the audience can make out their own reason for her presence. Except to look like Aishwarya, she doesnt have anything to do in this film. I dont know why Nasser is accepting to act in such roles, which always indignify his potential. Any 3rd grade actor could have done his role at ease. Brahmanandam is supposed to evoke laughter. He does so at one or two instances, but he too is wasted.

I dont know much about the rest of the star cast, so let me go to the story.

The hero wants his parents to choose a bride for him. He wants the marriage to be a 5 day affair and invites all his relatives to the grand wedding. The hero wishes to see the girl only on the 4th day of the marriage, when the groom ties the knot. The herione endorses his view about marriage and doesnt see the hero's photo. At a time, when the hero is about to tie the knot, the marriage pandal (the structure erected for the marriage) comes down and the herione is nowhere to be seen. The hero rescues a few people under the rubbles and searches for the heroine. Luckily no one is shown to be dead here. The hero spots the herione taken away by the villian and chases the car. The rest is how he wins her back. The first half is racy and a worth for the money you spend, but the second half is dragging and moves out of the track.

The art director should be praised for the grand sets he had erected for the climax fight and for the marriage sequence. The director should be appreciated for taking risk at Allu Arjun and the herione. Songs are not to be mentioned here, except for the one at the marriage sequence. Mani Sharma should be praised for that piece alone, leave alone me understanding the meaning of the song, the language and its tune..

In the end, you come out praising Suhasini, Aashish Vidyarthi and Arya for their respective portrayal. A must watch for them and a big no for Allu Arjun.

My rating - 4 on 10.

A day at BSNL to surrender your phone

It is indeed a horrible experience to surrender your landline connection with BSNL. You have to take a day's leave at office to complete the formalities.

1. Pay the outstanding bill at any BSNL Exchange Counter or Authorized Banks or Online. Pay it online if you have to avoid queues.

2. Take the receipt to the Commercial Officer, along with a letter to surrender your connection. The CO is not seated in the same building as the Exchange office. There are CO's for every area in Chennai, and it is at your interest that you have to find the CO for your region.

3. You will not meet the CO, but only the staff. The staff is authorized to sign on behalf of the CO. The staff will give a receipt for surrender, after checking the outstanding payment.

4. Now, you have to take this surrender receipt to the Exchange Office, in-charge of your area. ( For West Mambalam, it is Ashok Nagar 53rd Street, the CO office is at Kodambakkam ). You should also carry the deposit receipt ( i am sure, no one would know where this receipt is ), the directory and the instrument. It is altogether a different story if you dont have the deposit receipt with you. You have to write a letter to the Area Manager stating that you have surrendered the phone and request to refund the deposit. This Area Manager is seated somewhere else and you have to find out his whereabouts.

5. Now, that you have surrendered everything from BSNL, you have to wait for 60 days to get the deposit back.

Wuff... it is better not to have landline connection, in an era of wireless technology...

Who is blessed?

My younger brother's marriage happened 3 months before mine and my sister-in-law was at home for almost a month. She was born and brought up in Pondicherry, working as a teacher in a Govt school. So, she was juggling between Chennai and Pondi. Those were the golden moments in my life. We used to pick up a fight for every other thing at home, and my brother would judge us. You know the result already - he will take her side.. ( it has to be naturally ).

It was that day in Jan 2008, when she was confirmed pregnant. U know, the house was like heaven, calls pouring in, no one at home knew what they were doing, the first in our family... there are no words to explain this now, you have to undergo that to know how it was..

When the angel was born in Sep 2008, our happiness knew no bounds, as she was the first girl child after 75 yrs in our family. She still carries and has to carry all the attention from us. But what is the use?

She is in Pondy and we in Chennai. No one at home is able to enjoy her play, she is not here to cry, she is not here to laugh, she is not here to throw the things out of their place, she is not here to slap me, she is not here to bite my nose, she is not here to console me with a kiss when i am burnt or when i am sad.

Leave alone all the blessings the lord showers on us, there is no blessing without the angel around. She is the world to us at home, but she is not around. Wealth, health, prosperity etc etc.. are not the real blessings showered. It is this happiness and the one dearest to your heart, which has to happen, to show that you are really blessed.

None of the elders at home, neither the angel's dad and mom, know how it is to me, when she is not around. It is a blessing in disguise to see your children grow, but none at home are blessed.. that way, i am a loser.. Dont you think so? That way, i think all at home, are cursed.. what say you?

A trip to Poovarasankuppam

Me started off from Tambaram at 6:00Am to Poovarasankuppam(PK). It was my first visit to this place. It is a village, 18km from Villupuram, with limited bus services.

How to reach PK :

By Car : The most easiest and fastest way to commute, Touch Villupuram town and take the Villupuram - Pondy route. Keep travelling by road until you reach Siruvandhadu. PK is 3km from this Siruvandhadu (famous for Pattu ).

By Bus : The most difficult one. Reach Villupuram by Bus and buses to PK are limited. One at 9:30AM, the other one around 4:30PM. If you miss the first one at 9:30, you have to take the Villupuram - Pondy bus through Madukkarai. Take another bus to reach Siruvandhadu and take a share auto to reach PK.

By Train : The most comfortable one. There are train services to Villupuram, but you will definitely miss the 9:30 bus to PK. So, by all means, Car is the best way to reach PK.

Now, what is so special about PK? PK is the abode for Lord Lakshmi Narasimhar. This temple was supposed to be built in the 7th Century by Narasimha Varma Pallavan. The goddess is seated on HIS lap and looks at him through the right eye, while the left eye looks at the devotees. This is supposed to be a rare seating posture of the god and the goddess. She is supposed to forward the application put forth by the devotees to the Lord.

The Lord is supposed to have come down on his anger after killing Hiranyakashipu, at the request of Prahalad and the Goddess. Rishis, who were hiding in this place, fearing the rakshasa, wanted to see the Lord in his 'Shantha Avatar'. This shrine is the central one among 8 shrines for Lakshmi Narasimhar - the other 7 being Singar Kudi, Andhili, Sholingur, Namakkal, Singaperumal kovil, Parikkal and Chinthalvadi.

The sanctum sanctorum is very small and the moola vigraha of the lord is not more than 45 cms. All short vigrahams of any lord are considered to be more powerful.

Now, How did i reach there?

Took a UD bus to Villupuram from Tambaram. Reached at 9:25 AM. Luckily, a bus to PK was waiting and the driver took off at 9:45. Reached the temple at 11:00AM, the bus passing through roads not more than 2 m wide, with trucks and lorries on the other side, the roads with all ups and downs.

What did i do there & thereafter?

Offered prayers and came out of the temple at 11:30AM. Took a share auto to reach Siruvandhadu, alighted a bus to Koliyanur Coot Road ( a log of wood kept over a box near the conductor seat fell on my right foot - making the experience to this temple more memorable ), alighted another bus to Villupuram. Wuff, then had our lunch at a Veg hotel opposite to Villupuram bus stand, missing 2 UDs and 1 AC bus to Chennai. Boarded a bus to Chennai at 1:30PM and reached Tambaram at 4:45PM

Now, why did i visit this temple ?

Just to say, thanks, for all the blessings the lord has showered on me.

Who told me about this temple ?

My Friend's father-in-law, Mr. V. Srinivasan, when i visited him at Dubai.

What did i gain out of this visit ?

Should i dare to think about the Gain or loss having said that the lord has showered all his blessings on me?

Well, this is my first blog and will start blogging frequently.
